In 2013 McCourt installed a new Veolia steam line along heavily trafficked Day Boulevard and Monsignor O’Brien Highway. The 1,000’ underground steam line included 20 expansion joints, seven anchors, and a new manhole. The project required McCourt to core through the Lechmere Canal Bridge and hang the new steam line from the bridge. Restoration work included curb-to-curb milling and paving new sidewalks, and new handicapped ramps. McCourt hired Beacon Piping to perform the mechanical scope.
Due to the heavy traffic volumes of Kendall Square and the front of the Museum of Science, McCourt completed this project at night. The project required special attention to vehicle and pedestrian safety as it occurred along the “front door” of the most-visited museum in New England.
