Logan International Airport, East Boston, MA
Work on Runway 15R-33L commenced on August 14, 2023, with a construction timeline planned for approximately 100 days to complete $53 million worth of work. Serving as the longest runway at Boston Logan Airport, Runway 15R-33L is primarily used by the FAA during the Northwest winds, which are typically in the Winter and Spring and is preferred for late-night air traffic over the harbor. On August 14, 2023, all aircraft arrivals and departures closed for construction. The work was completed in thirteen phases, with three intersections and three taxiways. With this heavy schedule, the project was active 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Each phase was planned accordingly to prevent any interruptions to the air traffic. The work included replacing pavement, improving runway and taxiway intersections, upgrading electrical infrastructure, and converting runway lights to LEDs. As part of this project, three intersections were modified to prevent aircraft incursions and enhance the airfield's safety.
