Cambridge, MA
This project relocates an existing Eversource’s Kendall Square gas transfer station from its existing location to a new location within the limits of Vicinity’s Kendall Power Plant in Cambridge, MA. To construct BIOMED’s proposed three-tiered lab tower with the first floor dedicated to the Arts. As part of this project, McCourt was awarded the relocation of just under one mile of various sizes of natural gas mains throughout the streets in Kendall Square area and on Binney Street, two custom “slam shut vaults” with newly designed control cabinets, two pressure monitoring vaults, several anode 200 ft deep wells and fourteen live gas tie ins, one tie into an existing 36” cast iron main utilizing a line stop tool that was never used in the USA.
Construction began early spring 2022 with a successful completion date before the 2022-2023 winter season. There were numerous changes and off-sets to the main that the team managed in stride. In addition, the site contained varying levels of contamination that had to be carefully segregated and disposed of as the project progressed. The field team coordinated with various owners and other contractors to overcome the project challenges and extremely tight schedules. This award was McCourt’s first natural gas Project.
